Hyderabad is hosting the World Monuments Fund (WMF) Fashion, Culture and Heritage Gala at the historic Residency on Friday (January 16, 2026). The event celebrates 60 years of WMF, 10 years of WMF in India and 30 years of the Tarun Tahilian fashion brand.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to grace the occasion and launch the ‘Telangana Heritage Partner’ programme, which introduces a transformative public-private partnership (PPP) model designed to go beyond passive conservation and instead highlight historic structures as living economic assets.
WMF helped preserve the British Residence, which was completed in 2023. WMF listed the Musi River Precinct of Historic Buildings on World Monuments Watch in 2025, just as the Telangana government sought to envision the waterfront as a cultural, recreational and economic hub.
According to information, the state is likely to resort to taking over these monuments by selected companies for adaptive reuse. The aim of the scheme is a long-term conservation strategy that uses private funding and innovative income generation to reduce reliance on government funds for the sustainable management of monuments.
However, the Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University Gala is an invite-only event.
“We are kicking off the celebrations at the British Residency in Hyderabad, a building that reflects our India Modern design philosophy. As a house rooted in Indian craftsmanship and tailoring, we feel it is fitting that we return to this historic gem to mark our milestone that pays tribute to the fusion of cultures. We are proud to showcase the journey of Indian fashion, from textiles to cutembroide elements. Three decades (sic),” he shared. Tarun Tahiliani on social media.
