Hyderabad traffic police have booked seven cases for fake number plates

Hyderabad traffic police have registered seven criminal cases against vehicle owners for allegedly using fake, altered or unauthorized registration plates in the past week as part of intensified enforcement.

Cases were registered at RGI Airport, Kanchanbagh, Khairatabad, Osmania University, Jubilee Hills, Maheshwaram and Adilabad-1 Town police stations, while several vehicles were also seized during the drive.

According to the Hyderabad traffic police, the violations related to fraudulent registration plates, which were allegedly used to conceal the identity of vehicles, evading traffic surveillance and violating prescribed regulations. The traffic police reiterated that only government-approved High Security Number Plates (HSRP) are allowed on vehicles. Custom modifications, missing numbers and temporary license plate stickers are illegal.

The ministry has warned vehicle owners that the use of false or tampered number plates may result in prosecution and immediate impoundment of the vehicle. The traffic police said such enforcement drives will continue across the city as part of efforts to ensure compliance with number plate norms, improve road safety and prevent misuse of vehicles to evade enforcement.
