The Hyderabad City Police on Thursday launched the Advanced City Surveillance Grid Management Protocol along with Empowering Your Everyday Safety (EYES), a new multi-disciplinary team formed to ensure that the city’s extensive CCTV network operates with fewer outages.
Commissioner VC Sajjanar described it as a major overhaul of how the city maintains and modernizes its monitoring infrastructure.

The new system is designed to work with an ecosystem that now includes more than 16,000 police-owned CCTV cameras, more than 50,000 community and private sources and more than 100,000 Nenu Saitam community cameras connected to the community. “Police body-worn cameras and soon-to-be-deployed drones add to the growing mix. The focus remained strictly on the technology framework and its operational structure,” the officer said.
He also said that the centerpiece of the protocol is the Technology Due Diligence Team, tasked with defining minimum equipment standards and working with innovation centers and large technology firms to test new solutions. “This work is supported by the Camera Support Call Centre, which will manage fault reports, service ticket registration, damage escalation and footage related queries from investigating officers,” he added.
Mr. Sajjanar said that once a problem is flagged, it is quickly passed on to the EYES field teams. “Each zone will have two such units made up of trained technicians who can repair emergency breakdowns, manage disrupted infrastructure and coordinate with civil or construction contractors whenever needed. Their work will be supported by a warehouse unit using RFID tagging to maintain inventory and ensure spare parts are ready when needed, as well as a dedicated repair center capable of diagnosing faults, carrying out major repairs and managing warranty claims with manufacturers,” explained the warranty worker with the manufacturers.
The CSR Desk linked to the Hyderabad City Safety Council (HCSC) will focus on mobilizing funds and encouraging public participation through programs such as ‘donate a camera – build a safer street’. The data analytics team will support the system with real-time dashboards, insight-based planning and call center workflow management.
Officials said the integrated system is expected to reduce downtime, improve incident response, reduce costs and increase community involvement in public safety. Police have also deployed a fleet of 10 two-wheelers, four four-wheelers and a mechanized aerial ladder unit to respond to CCTV-related issues.
Mr. Sajjanar said EYES will mark a new chapter in surveillance maintenance, adding that the combination of due diligence, rapid response, strong logistics and analytical intelligence will take policy in a whole new direction.
As part of corporate social responsibility, he handed over a check of 4 lakh from Christian Leaders Forum to Central Zone Commissioner DCP K. Shilpavalli.
