Hyderabad Police Launches AI-Driven Social Media Monitoring Platform ‘SOCEYE’

The Hyderabad City Police on Monday (May 18) launched ‘SOCEYE’ (Social Media Observation and Cyber Intelligence), an artificial intelligence-based application developed to monitor malicious online content, track cyber issues, analyze social media trends and support investigations.

The platform was unveiled as part of the city police’s technology-focused initiative aimed at strengthening cyber surveillance and preventive policing. Officials said the app enables automated monitoring of multiple social media platforms, reducing the need for extensive manual review and enabling real-time analysis of online stories that could disrupt public order.

According to police, the system has shown significant results during its pilot phase by identifying 85 hateful and community-sensitive posts related to the Puranapul X Road incident earlier this year and 126 posts related to the Gudimalkapur issue. Officials said early takedown measures have been initiated to help maintain peace and identify those responsible for spreading objectionable content.

SOCEYE features an integrated dashboard that consolidates inputs from Dial-100 calls, news alerts, ongoing city events and other operational channels to provide officers with real-time situational awareness.

The app also features an automatic alert mechanism that continuously monitors social media manipulations flagged as communal or disturbing content while prioritizing issues related to narcotics and women’s safety. Using artificial intelligence models, the platform identifies material related to cyberbullying, stalking and child sexual abuse and categorizes posts into high, medium and low risk levels based on sensitivity.

Police said the system can escalate malicious content directly to social media platforms to intervene, while keeping a record of requests. It also includes network sharing analysis to identify accounts repeatedly distributing sensitive content.

Another feature of the platform is to track complaints through the official social media of the Hyderabad City Police. Complaints are automatically categorized, assigned tracking numbers and tracked until resolved, allowing for better accountability and analysis of recurring issues and locations.

For large-scale events such as protests, public gatherings and religious processions, SOCEYE can create event-specific monitoring frameworks based on keywords and track related online activity in real-time to detect potential threats.

The app also includes analytics tools and a repository of open source social media and intelligence tools to aid in cybercrime investigations and conventional cases involving digital evidence.

SOCEYE’s global search engine can instantly scan public profiles and aggregate posts related to specific keywords, officials said, allowing officials to quickly assess emerging stories.

Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the platform will significantly reduce the workload of police personnel while enhancing preventive policing.

“We have created this artificial intelligence ecosystem to break the networks of anti-social elements that fuel unrest in society, keeping the safety of women and children at the top priority. As criminals increasingly weaponize social media, we will neutralize it with cutting-edge technology,” he said.
