The Cyber Crime Unit of the Hyderabad Police has issued a public alert warning against the rise in credit card fraud targeting unsuspecting cardholders through numerous online and telephone scams.
Police said fraudsters are using phishing links, fake merchant websites, fake customer care numbers, cashback offers, credit limit increase calls and malicious mobile apps to steal card details and one-time passwords, leading to unauthorized transactions. There have also been reported cases of card skimming or cloning, SIM swapping fraud and call center impersonation.
The Cyber Crime Unit urged citizens to remain vigilant and urged people not to click on spam links, never share OTP, PIN or CVV numbers and install apps only from official app stores. Victims have been asked to immediately report suspicious transactions through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 or the Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
