Hyderabad police have arrested seven people in the lawyer’s murder case
Seven persons, including the alleged master conspirators, have been arrested by the Hyderabad police in connection with the murder of advocate Khaj Moizuddin, who was allegedly run over by an SUV near his residence in Masab Tank on May 23. The killing was part of a planned murder-for-hire linked to a long-running dispute over Waqf property.
The police identified Mujahid Alam Khan as the main conspirator and alleged that he, along with his father Mahboob Alam Khan and associates Hassan Ali alias Chaous and Muneer, planned the murder systematically. The familiarization searches were being conducted since January, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said, briefing the media about the arrests.
The officer said that the accused used the vehicle to deliberately hit the advocate at high speed, throwing him nearly 10 meters and causing him severe injuries which later turned fatal.
“The accused was allegedly paid ₹15 lakh for carrying out the murder. The police have recovered the vehicle used in the crime, ₹10.10 lakh in cash and several mobile phones from the accused,” the officer added.
According to the police, the complaint was filed by the victim’s son, advocate MS Farhan, who said his father got out for a swim at around 5:45 a.m. and was approaching a parked vehicle when an unknown four-wheeler rammed into it violently before fleeing the scene. Moizuddin succumbed to his injuries around noon.
Police said the murder stemmed from a dispute, allegedly since 2013, between the family of accused Mujahid Alam Khan and advocate Khaj Moizuddin over property and management of Waqf properties in Malakpet and Lakdikapul. Several civil, criminal and Waqf Tribunal cases have reportedly been pending between the two groups over the years.
According to investigators, the accused believed that the lawyer’s involvement in the legal proceedings against them led to repeated legal setbacks and humiliation, leading to a conspiracy to remove him.
Investigators said the conspirators diverted the money through middlemen to distance themselves from carrying out the crime. The police claimed that ₹2,000 was initially given to purchase the Scorpio vehicle used in the crime.
“Investigations revealed that since January 2026, the accused was conducting reconnaissance near the advocate’s residence and tracking his movement to identify an opportunity to carry out the attack. Kishan alias Pappu was traced to Panipat in Haryana and arrested on May 27. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the conspiracy and disclosed the roles played by others in the mission,” he explained.
Based on technical evidence and his confession, police teams arrested Mujahid Alam Khan from Jubilee Hills and arrested several other accused near MGBS, Gowliguda on Friday 29
Police said the accused Abhijeeth alias Nani was allegedly driving the SUV and rammed it into the advocate for monetary gain. Cash in the amount of CZK 2.80,000 and a mobile phone were seized from him.
Another accused Dighan Vinay is said to have arranged the driver, procured the vehicle and participated in the planning and reconnaissance. Police recovered an SUV, ₹4.50 lakh in cash and a mobile phone from him. He is also allegedly involved in several previous criminal cases.
Police also arrested Vikram Aditya alias Chinta, who allegedly linked the driver to the conspiracy, and Manideep alias Pogo Nani, who was allegedly present in the vehicle during the offence.
Further investigation is underway to nab the remaining absconding accused and collect other technical and documentary evidence related to the conspiracy.
