Hyderabad Metro Rail to explore more buses, improve connectivity

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy on Wednesday asked officials to initiate talks with bus manufacturers to arrange additional buses for the 69-km phase one network currently in operation across three metro corridors.

Seeking to improve services for commuters, Mr. Reddy emphasized the need for robust and efficient first and last mile connectivity from metro stations. He directed the officials to coordinate with the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) and the transport department authorities to explore suitable solutions. He was speaking at a review meeting with senior officials of Metro Rail Bhavan.

The meeting also discussed measures for the maintenance and expansion of skywalks connected to metro stations, as well as coordination with railway authorities for their effective management. He stressed the need to streamline passenger movement routes leading to platforms to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel.

Noting that each metro station has unique requirements, Mr. Reddy called for the preparation of localized plans and suggested implementation of pilot projects at selected stations before extending them to other locations. He also announced plans to personally inspect the operation and maintenance of the station through field visits in the near future.

The progress of Public Rapid Transit System (PRTS) proposals in high density areas like Hitec City, Raidurg, Gachibowli, Financial District and Kondapur was also reviewed. Security measures implemented by the Metro track security department to protect passengers were discussed in detail.
