Hyderabad Hospital performs 400 kidney transplants

Yashoda Hospital, the city branch of HITEC, has performed more than 400 kidney transplant surgeries since the launch of its kidney transplant programme, the hospital said on Saturday (Aug 29).

The milestone was highlighted at the ‘Kidney Symposium 2026’, which discussed advances in kidney transplantation, post-transplant care, long-term graft health and the need to raise awareness about organ donation.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the symposium. NITI Aayog member R. Balasubrahmanyam attended as the guest of honour. The symposium brought together nephrologists, urologists, transplant specialists and other healthcare professionals to discuss the latest developments in kidney transplantation and share their clinical experiences.

Mr Reddy said advances in medical technology, coordination between specialist teams and improved treatment approaches have boosted kidney transplant outcomes. He also emphasized the need to improve public awareness of organ donation and dispel misconceptions about organ donation. He said initiatives like the symposium could help raise awareness among health professionals and the public about kidney disease prevention, early treatment, organ donation and post-transplant care.

Yashoda Hospitals CEO G. Surender Rao said the hospital has achieved better transplant outcomes due to advanced technology, experienced specialists and comprehensive patient care. He said the hospital also handled complex cases, including ABO-incompatible transplants, transplants in elderly patients and kidney donation from elderly living donors.
