The Sikh community in Hyderabad is gearing up to celebrate the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru and the founder of Sikhism, with grandeur and devotion from November 1 to 5, 2025.
The five-day celebrations, organized jointly by the Prabhandak Committees (Organizing Committees) of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Afzalgunj and Gurudwara Saheb, Secunderabad, will include holy processions, devotional gatherings, martial arts performances and night keertan sessions.
The information was shared during a press meet by the organisers, including presidents Satvinder Singh Bagga, S. Baldev Singh Bagga, vice-president Jaspal Singh Tutej and general secretaries Jagmohan Singh and Joginder Singh Mujral on Tuesday (October 28, 2025).
Holy Procession on November 1 and 3
According to the organizers, the festivities will begin with a holy procession (Nagar Keertan) on November 1, starting from Gurudwara Saheb, Secunderabad at 4:00 pm. The procession will pass through the Clock Tower, Patny circle, Kingsway, Monda Market and Alpha Hotel before returning to the Gurudwara in the evening. Thousands of devotees from across Telangana are expected to participate, carrying the Guru Granth Sahib, the revered Sikh scripture, on decorated palanquins. The procession will feature devotional hymns performed by Jatha Tera Jatha and other groups along with a display of the traditional Sikh martial art of Gatka by Jai Tegang Gatka Akhara of Amritsar and Dashmesh Kalgidhar Jatha.
The second procession will be held on November 3 from Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Afzalgunj. It will pass through Afzalgunj, Siddiamber Bazar, Jambagh, Putlibowli and Central Gurudwara Saheb, Gowliguda from 4:00 pm and then return to Afzalgunj by 9:00 pm Like the first, this procession will also include devotional singing, martial arts displays and participation of thousands of devotees of all faiths.
parish meeting on November 5
The mass meeting will be held on November 5 at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm. More than 25,000 devotees are expected to gather for the event, which will feature recitations of holy hymns and sermons by religious preachers from across India and abroad. Among the performers are Bhai Harjinder Singh (Srinagar wale), Bhai Baljeet Singh (USA wale), Gyani Saheb Singh (Markanda wale), Bhai Hari Singh, Bhai Jagdev Singh and Bhai Harwinder Singh. Speakers will share insights into Guru Nanak’s teachings on peace, equality and universal brotherhood. The gathering will conclude with free social meals.
Keertan Darbars
As part of the celebrations, two night ‘Keertan Darbars’ will also be organized — one on November 4 at Gurudwara Saheb, Secunderabad from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm and another on November 5 at Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Afzalgunj from 9:00 pm to 2:00 am These lectures will include perfumers.
