For years, Delhi is missing from the highest level of Indian football. The presence of Isl in the capital disappeared after Delhi Dynamos moved to Bhubaneswar in 2019, became Odisha FC and let the fans little encourage for Delhi FC in I-League. This is going to change. Hyderabad FC, the Isl 2021–22 champions, will move to Delhi and will be Rebranded as a Sporting Club Delhi, with the first time Isl bring back to the city in more than five years.
This step ends with Hyderabad’s chapter in the south and gives the capital something his football fans have long been waiting for: the home team of the Isl. In recent years, Punjab FC has played some of his home games at the Delhi stadium Jawaharlal Nezru, but with the advent of the Sporting Club Dilli, the city can expect the permanent presence of Isl this season.
Hyderabad FC Story
Hyderabad FC was created in 2019 and entered after FC Pune City composed due to financial problems. The club fought in its first season and ended up at the bottom of the table. Things began to change by appointing Spanish coach Manol Marquez, who led Hyderabad to a dramatic turn, which culminated in the title of Isl 2021–22.
However, the challenges returned in the 2024-25 season. Hyderabad FC finished 12th in the 13-team league and secured only four wins out of 24 matches. The instability outside the field joined the fight, with Thanboi Singto left in the middle of the season and the stand-in coach Shameel Chembakath took over. The club was eventually taken over by Jindal Football PVT. LTD, stage setting for a new beginning in the capital.
Why move to Delhi?
The relocation is more than a change in location. The club reported on the All India (AIFF) football federation about its long -term plan to create a well -structured professional football club, which connects with a new generation of football fans in Delhi. Sporting Club Delhi secured the land in the new Delhi, intended as its operational base and the Center for Football Care in the region.
Delhi has a rich history of football. Fans of the city once filled the stadium Ambedkar for the main tournaments in the 50th and 60s. Even Delhi Dynamos with star signatures like Alessandro del Piero, Roberto Carlos and Florent Maloud tried to maintain consistent crowds before relocation. Sporting Club Delhi will focus on building this passion in his second chance and building a team with a strong and sustainable foundation.
Sporting Club Delhi is ready to debut in the Super Cup 2025 under a new identity. The project is more than rebranding; It is a chance to set up Isl football firmly in the capital.
