The production of coaches proposed by the ICF for Garib Rath trains was stopped last year and replaced by the air -conditioned economy Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB). The old coaches were used to running special trains.
However, several complaints about various maintenance problems have been received from higher officials on various zonal railways, including electrical and mechanical problems and the unavailability of spare parts.
With the increasing number of complaints from the travel public and railway officials in recent months, the Railway Council has ordered that the former ICF proposed coaches Garib Rath Express will be withdrawn from personal service with immediate effect, sources said.
“The zonal railways have shown a number of problems in the maintenance of electric and mechanical subassembers of ICF Garib Rath coaches, including rehabilitation in the middle of their lives and problems with the purchase of spare parts. It was decided to stop these coaches from personal services.”
About 900 coaches were expected to be withdrawn. Although a political decision was taken to replace all coaches designed by the ICF, most of which are at least 20 years old, hundreds of trains with old toys were operated.
Only in the South Railway was 154 rakes, which include coaches designed by the ICF, still in personal service on several routes and officials planned to replace them by 2028 LHB Rchesses, the sources said.
