Hulu, an online distribution service for movies and TV dramas, experienced an outage on November 7, 2025, affecting more than 2,800 users. According to data from the outage-tracking website DownDetector, users began reporting problems around 6:55 PM ET.
Video streaming was among the most commonly reported problems users faced, followed by the app and the web, she said. Affected locations included Dallas, San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, Houston and others.
In August of this year, Hulu experienced a service outage in the United States, with many users encountering an “upstream request timeout” error when trying to open or stream from the app.
Hulu will shut down in 2026
Meanwhile, Hulu will cease to operate as a standalone app in 2026 as Disney has confirmed plans to “fully integrate” the now-fully-owned streaming service into its main Disney+ platform. From fall 2025, Hulu will take over the Star brand on Disney+ for international markets. Disney has announced that a unified Disney+ and Hulu streaming app will be launched in 2026.
However, a company representative noted that users will still have the option to subscribe to Hulu or Disney+ individually if they want. CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston said in prepared commentary on the media giant’s quarterly earnings: “Today we’re announcing a significant step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+.
“They added: “This will create a compelling entertainment package that brings together top quality brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and premium live sports content in a single app.
Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors that combining Disney+ and Hulu into a single app will provide an “enhanced consumer experience” and help reduce subscriber churn. He said the two services will operate on “a single technology platform,” leading to cost efficiencies. Disney, which already sells ads for Disney+ and Hulu together, expects “new opportunities to pool ad sales through a full combination.”
Hulu’s live TV business will be merged with Fubo through a proposed joint venture that will be majority owned by Disney. While Hulu + Live TV and Fubo will continue to be sold separately for now, a Disney representative confirmed that Hulu + Live TV will be integrated into Disney+ in 2026.
