MLA for Hubballi-Dharwad Central Mahesh Tenginakai emphasized the need to facilitate export of local mangoes and said officials should provide necessary information and take care of the farmers initially.

He inaugurated the Dharwad district level ‘Mango Mela-2026’ organized with the theme ‘Market and Value Addition’, jointly by the Karnataka Agriculture Marketing Board, Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Agriculture Marketing Department, Horticulture Department, GS Global Foundation and Dharwad District Administration at Hubaragol Exhibition Center on Saturday.

Expressing happiness over the variety of mango species cultivated, the MLA, however, felt the need for widespread awareness of the mela. He suggested that the mela should be held in a particular month every year with corresponding awareness programmes.

Former MP IG Sanadi emphasized the need for people to plant more saplings and increase green cover for their own better future.

KCCI president GK Adappagoudar said mango growers were not getting proper prices for their yield because of middlemen. Such melas have helped to eliminate middlemen, he said, stressing the need to hold similar melas at various places for the benefit of farmers as well as consumers.

Jishan Sirsane of GS Global Foundation embarked on a mission to plant 30 thousand saplings worldwide and planned to create 1.6 million jobs in 14 districts.

Senior officials including KH Guruprasad, Ashiq Ali DM and others were present.

Mango varieties were sold to customers directly by farmers in the mela.
