Launched in 2023, the ‘Hridaya Vaishalya Yojane’ continues to make significant strides in improving rural healthcare in Mandya district.
Proposed by Deputy Commissioner Kumar, the initiative was introduced to address the problems faced by rural communities where people often neglect their health and seek medical help only when conditions become severe.
Earlier, villagers suffering from heart diseases had to travel to urban centers for diagnostic tests and treatment as there was a lack of adequate medical facilities in their localities. Realizing that delayed diagnosis of heart problems can be life-threatening, Mr. Kumar devised the framework for the scheme after consulting cardiologists.
To facilitate early detection of heart problems, the district administration in collaboration with CAD has decided to equip Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in rural areas with electrocardiogram (ECG) machines.
In the first phase, 35 PHCs in all taluks of the district received ECG machines through the district level programme. “The initiative has proven to be effective, with more than 25,000 patients screened in the last one and a half years. Many of them have benefited from timely treatment made possible by early detection,” the district administration said.
Buoyed by the success of the first phase, the second phase of the ‘Hridaya Vaishalya Yojane’ was launched on Monday in the presence of Mandya Area Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy. Mr. Kumar was also present.
Under this phase, 14 modern ECG machines were distributed to major Community Health Centers (CHCs) across the district. The main objective of the initiative is to ensure that no citizen of the district is deprived of basic health care, especially timely heart care, the report added.
