HR&CE Minister says a special committee has been set up to verify the properties of the Palani temple

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister S. Ramesh on Wednesday announced the formation of a special committee to verify all properties belonging to Arupadaiveedu temples dedicated to Lord Murugan. The first such committee will be constituted for the Sri Dhandayudhapaniswamy temple at Palani.

In a press release issued here, the minister said that a committee comprising officials from HR&CE and Revenue department will thoroughly check whether any assets have been tampered with or illegally transferred to other persons. It would also deal with properties that did not have proper documentation. He would consult extensively in land records, various temple registers and documents.

The committee would be headed by Additional Commissioner HR&CE, Tiruchi Region. Other members would include the joint commissioner of Palani temple, the sub-collector of Dindigul, the tax divisional officer Palani, the deputy director of land records and survey and the special tahsildar for temple lands.

Based on the report submitted by the committee, legal action would be initiated against the perpetrators. Mr. Ramesh said that the constitution of the committee is an important step to protect the property of the temple. This announcement comes just after the fraudulent registration of land belonging to Dhandayudhapaniswamy Math in Palani.
