HR&CE Minister inspects Northeast Monsoon preparedness in Tiruvottiyur and Manali

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister S. Ramesh asked officials to speed up desilting of water bodies and canals, remove water hyacinth and keep motor pumps ready in water-logged areas.
The minister, who was also recently appointed in-charge of development and flood preparedness in Tiruvottiyur and Manali, inspected the service road near the Tiruvottiyur tuna harbour, the damaged retaining wall along the Buckingham Canal near the TPP bridge and the Kargil Nagar lake and pumping facility.
In Manali, he inspected Puzhal surplus confluence near Jothi Nagar bridge, Kosasthalaiyar river stretch from RL Nagar to Sadaiyankuppam, Puzhal surplus confluence near Barma Nagar bridge and surplus canal near Amullavoyal bridge.
He asked the officials to remove the obstructions, strengthen the damaged walls of the canal and speed up the rainwater drainage work. He also directed officials to ensure basic facilities at relief centers and community kitchens and coordinate preparedness measures with Greater Chennai Corporation, Water Resources Department, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Electricity Department and Roads Department.
