For years, the Chinese has avoided the prison by repeatedly getting pregnant. The woman who used the name Chen Hong was sentenced to five years for fraud in Shanxi in December 2020. However, it has never served time.
Instead, she gave birth to three children with one man for four years. According to Chinese law, women who are pregnant or nursing can perform their punishment outside prison. It is usually done at home or in a hospital with the supervision of local authorities.
They must provide medical or pregnancy reports every three months and the inspection is performed regularly. Southern China Morning Post said that after years of escape Chen was finally brought to justice.
In May 2025, the Inspectorate showed that although she had just released her third child, the child had not lived with her. The records revealed that the child was registered under the sister of her ex -husband, so it was legally hers.
Chen later admitted that she divorced. Her first two children were with her ex -husband. And the third was given to his sister, the publication added.
The authorities decided to abuse pregnancy as an excuse to escape from prison. With less than a year she was sent to the detention center to complete her sentence.
Social media users responded to this bizarre incident.
“I was more shocked that she could get pregnant when she wanted to,” SCMP quoted one of them.
“Judging in my own experience, it is easier to conceive right after giving birth,” another said.
Another user noted: “I regret three children who were born only because their mother wanted to escape the prison.”
Chen Hong is not the only woman to do that
Chen Hong is not the first woman to use this strategy to avoid her prison. A Chinese woman named Zeng has been avoiding prison for ten years by getting pregnant again and again.
In 2005, she was sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption, but she escaped prison because she was pregnant at that time. After the probation decision, she even went to abortion.
Since 2006, Zeng reported 14 pregnancies in ten years. One was false, while 13 were real, according to daily online.
This cycle allowed her to delay her sentence for decades. Her unusual tactics finally ended when the court sent her to prison in 2015.
