For a sincere exchange during the recent podcast with YouTuber and researcher Lex Fridman, the CEO of Alphabet Sundar Pichai dealt with growing public criticism about the perceived loss of Google’s momentum in Rase AI and said it remains confident in the long -term vision and society management.
He replied to a pointed comment-“Lost Google … is over. You are a bad person who leads Google” -Pichai thought about the strategic decisions that made as CEO, and emphasized the commitment of the state to become “ai-first” and responsibly built artificial intelligence (AGI).
“It is obvious that the main bet as the CEO I did was to ensure that society was close to everything in an ai-first way,” Pichai said. “We have ensured us to release products that are useful for people. I felt good what we built internally even during turbulence last year.”
Pichai emphasized several basic movements under his leadership, including the merger of Google Brain and Deepmind to the unified Deepmind Google Deepmind team, a decision that has strengthened AI’s research skills. Ten years ago, he also referred to the first Google investment in tensor processing units (TPU), which was decisive in the scaling and training of large AI models such as Gemini.
In his characteristic calm tone, Pichai described his approach to leading in the middle of criticism. “I’m good in tune in noise and signal separation from noise,” he noted, drawing diving analogy. “Sometimes you jump into the ocean and it’s jerky. But you’re just about your leg down and it’s the most peaceful thing in space.”
He compared to the operation of Google with the management of an elite football club, such as Barcelona or Real Madrid-Kde, one harsh season neglects the group’s strength or long-term strategy. “You follow signals, and while some good feedback may come from the outside, you internally make a set of subsequent decisions. Many may feel insignificant at that time, but they add up.”
Despite the challenges, Pichai believes that Google is well placed in the AI landscape. “We had to increase TPU, train gemini and scalance our calculation. For me it seemed like the greatest space for the next decade – greater than what we saw before,” he said. “We are set better than most of the companies in the world.”
Notes appear at a time when technical giants compete hard for AI dominance and the public perception often moves rapidly on the basis of the introduction of products and visible innovations. For Pichai, however, the focus remains stable: “Just keep things moving. We set the right teams, the right leader and we have world scientists.”
