Sharing some tips on how I’ve improved my eyesight over the past two years. This is based on my personal experience, and I’m not a doctor. Before making any changes to your routine, always consult your eye doctor. Eyes are precious—let’s treat them with care, okay?
Hi friends! I hope you’re having a beautiful morning, and thank you for all the enthusiasm around Medicine. I’ve booked so many strategy calls and can’t wait to connect with you. You can see the details and book your free strategy call here.
Today’s post answers a popular reader request—one I’ve been thinking about for over a year but hesitated to share. I hesitated because I’m not a doctor, let alone an eye specialist, but I’ve learned a lot about my eyes over the past two years when no one could help me with my eye issues. Eventually, I found an amazing dry eye specialist, but I also had to take matters into my own hands. Other doctors were stumped and wanted me to rely on steroid drops, which raised my eye pressure. I’ve learned so much and am excited to share it with you, but please don’t take this as medical advice. Always consult your doctor before changing anything in your routine.
Here’s my eye story: A few years ago, I made significant changes to my eye care routine. (I’ll share some of these below.) Over the past year, I noticed my glasses felt too strong. They bothered me, especially when driving, creating a magnifying effect. I had my annual eye exam at a new office because my last prescription was a disaster (it gave me allergic reactions to contacts and solutions). During the exam, I was thrilled to learn that my prescription had decreased for the first time in my life—from -5.25 to -5.0. It was a huge victory!
Later, I ordered a pair of Vivarays prescription glasses after trying their blue light glasses. I chose Vivarays because they’re a great company. (Use the discount code FITNESSISTA for a deal, and I’ll post a full review soon!) However, my glasses started feeling too strong again, so I went back to check my prescription.
I told my eye doctor that my glasses felt too strong for reading and computer use. He checked my reading vision and discovered my reading prescription was -2.50, much lower than my current glasses. He wrote me a new prescription for reading and computer work, which has been a game-changer.
When I shared this good news on Instagram, I received many requests to write this post. The truth is, I’ve made several changes that have collectively improved my eyesight—it’s not just one thing.
How I Naturally Improved My Eyesight
Here are the key strategies that helped me:
– Eye Hygiene and Cleansing. This might sound basic, but I never properly cleaned my eyelids before. Now, I cleanse them every night and morning. My routine:
- AM: Use a Corneal Care eye mask for 15-20 minutes.
- Two drops of Restasis Preservative-Free (I prefer Eyeganics for sustainability, but this works well).
- Clean lids with Cliradex Wipes (I use 1/4 wipe each morning).
- PM: Cleanse my face with Fresh Cleanser and follow my skincare routine.
- Clean lids with Oasis Lid and Lash Wipes (I use half a wipe each night).
- One drop of Restasis Preservative-Free.
– Parasite Cleaning. Early in my eye journey, I had terrible blepharitis caused by an overgrowth of mites. Cleaning my lids and lashes made a huge difference. I’ve written more about parasite cleaning here.
– Managing Dry Eyes. My eyes rarely bother me now. I use warm compresses in the morning, eye drops twice a day, keep my lids clean, and stay hydrated. Dry eyes can worsen vision, so getting this under control was crucial.
– Regulating the Nervous System. Stress is inflammatory and affects all bodily functions. I’ve worked on cortisol regulation and nervous system balance for years. I prioritize sleep, meditate on my PEMF Mat, journal, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy nature.
– Reading This Book. This book, recommended by Roudy (founder of Vivarays), was a game-changer. The key takeaway: The less you rely on glasses, the less you need them over time. I started skipping glasses during workouts, and my vision gradually improved.
– Eliminating Toxins and Addressing Deficiencies. I’ve overhauled my nutrition and supplement routine. My go-to eye supplements include Vitamin C, Firm Multivitamin, and Omega-3s. I also eat sardines, salmon, leafy greens, and fresh fruit regularly.
These are the main strategies that have helped me! If you have questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
