Several houses near Lake Rayasandra in Doddanagamangala, on the southeast outskirts of Bengalur, were demolished on Friday due to intervention.
Jagadeesha G., Deputy Commissioner of Bengalur Urban, said the residents interfered with the lake area by presenting counterfeit documents that led to the check -in procedure.
“Because I assumed the accusation as a deputy Commissioner Bengalur Urban, almost 300 hectares of government soil were reclaimed. Even people occupied the lake area using false documents,” Jagadeesha said.
However, the inhabitants accused the government of targeting innocent people. “We pay taxes from our properties for years. If these lands have been intervened, why did the authorities continue to collect taxes from us?” The inhabitants who organized protests against the drive made.
“Many of us still have unpaid bank loans accepting our houses. Now, with our homes are demolished, where are we going?” He lamented a woman whose house was among those who were demolished.
