Former Main Minister Jamm and Kashmir and President of the Democratic Party Peoples (PDP) Mehboob Muftti on Monday (May 19, 2025) against the government of J&K to hire former servants to protect fundamental installations in the Union.
Mrs. Muftti said in a contribution to the Social Media Platform X that she wrote the Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah and called on “again to consider the decision of her government to employ 4,000 former service workers to protect key installations”.
“Although I have the highest respect and gratitude for our former service staff, we must not overlook the increasing crisis of unemployment, which affects the youth in J&K, whose number has now exceeded the Laky,” said Mrs. Muftti.

She said that increasing unemployment was not only an economic problem, but a social emergency situation. “With several opportunities in the middle of complete despair, many young people are falling into the grip of drug addiction, and tragically some are even driven to suicide. We have to come to rescue by realizing their future,” Mrs. Mufti said.
The Indian Army recently confirmed that the J&K government has approved a proposal to hire at least 4,000 former volunteers of former service workers who were drawn from the Jamm & Kashmir Sainik Council to protect vital infrastructure in the Union.
The army said it was “the main step to strengthen the safety based on the community and the use of the abilities of the former military personnel”.
According to the proposal, the volunteers of the former servants will serve as part of the overall coordination of the relevant district officials of Sainik Welfare. “They will operate in close coordination with the district administration and the local police. Their task is a non-fighter focusing on the duties of the static guard, deterring based on the present and local coordination,” said the spokesman of the army.
The spokesman added that training and orientation programs were planned to ensure standardized behavior and efficiency.
“This initiative not only uses discipline, experience and determination to the community of former servants, but also represents the model of inclusive and participating security. It also strengthens the inheritance of the Indian Army service for the battlefield and meaningfully contributes to civil society and local government structures in J&K,” said the army.
