House burglary accused nabbed in two days, loot worth ₹26 crore recovered
Pahadishareef police arrested a 20-year-old house burglar and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments worth about ₹ 26 lakh within two days of registering the case.
The accused has been identified as Akumalla Baba Peer alias Baba, an AC mechanic of Housing Board Colony in Raviryala village of Maheshwaram mandal in Ranga Reddy district. He hails from Ayyavaripally village in YSR Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh.
Police said the accused was nabbed on June 7 evening based on technical evidence and specific information obtained during investigation.
The police seized 166 grams of gold ornaments, 257 grams of silver objects and a screwdriver allegedly used in the crime.
The case came to light after Nenavath Mallikarjun lodged a complaint with Pahadishareef police on June 5. He informed the police that he had locked his house and had left for his native village of Sunnapu Thanda in Kollapur with his family on June 2. When the family returned on the night of June 4, they found the almirah in the bedroom and the cupboard broken.
According to the complaint, the stolen property included about 17 tolas of gold ornaments comprising chains, bangles, bangle, earrings, rings and a gold biscuit in one tola along with silver articles including silver biscuits and a pair of silver anklets.
Police said the family also noticed that the glass panes of the ventilation hole in the pooja room had been removed, indicating that the offender had entered the house through the ventilation during their absence.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. Investigators said he would move around residential colonies at night looking for locked houses. After identifying the target, he would gain entry by removing the ventilation glass panes and then break open the almirah cabinets with a screwdriver.
Police said the accused allegedly sold the stolen property to unidentified persons in different parts of Hyderabad and spent the proceeds on personal expenses.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further investigation is underway.
The arrest and recovery was carried out by a team from Pahadishareef Police Station under the supervision of senior officers of RGIA Division and Shamshabad Zone.
