The Lakkundi Gram Panchayat has decided to reward Prajwala Ritti and his family for returning the treasure they found during the excavation for their house by displaying Prajwala’s photo in every school and alloting the family a 30x40ft residential plot.
On January 10, Prajwal found a jar with gold ornaments during excavation for the reconstruction of their house in Lakkundi village of Gadag district. The ornaments, weighing around half a kilogram, were thought to be at least 100 years old.
In a special grama sabha at Lakkundi village on Thursday, members of Lakkundi Gram Panchayat passed a resolution and also decided to request the district in-charge minister to provide financial assistance to the family to build a house.
The grama sabha’s decision to display Prajwal Ritti’s photo with a short message about his sincerity is aimed at encouraging and motivating children.
Lakkundi Gram Panchayat president Kenchappa Pujar said a special grama sabha was convened in the village on Thursday in honor of the Ritti family, who honestly returned the treasure contained in the cup to the district administration.
“The decision to allot the residential plot was taken unanimously. Law minister and district in-charge of Gadag HK Patil had earlier asked the gram panchayat to take the decision to allot the plot to the family,” he said.
As the funds under the government schemes will not be sufficient for the construction of the house, it has been decided to call on the MLA, the district in-charge minister and the district administration to release assistance of at least 10 to 15 lakhs for the construction of the house, he said.
During the grama sabha, Ritti family members were honored by the grama panchayat.
Reacting to the tribute, Prajwal’s mother Gangavva Ritti said they were worried about their future and now that everyone has come forward to offer a helping hand, their fears have vanished.
“The panchayat has decided to allot land. An assurance has also been given regarding employment and help in building a house. We hope things will change for good,” she said.
