The anti-drug abuse message spread over the wireless airwaves as Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala urged the public to embrace “Operation Toofan”, an awareness campaign aimed at building a drug-free society.

His message was delivered at the conclusion of the state-level JOTA-JOTI 2026 international jamboree in Thrissur on Sunday.

Organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides Kerala at Thrissur Town Hall, the two-day event ended on a high note as thousands of students from various parts of the state participated in the international communication initiative.

Mr. Chennithala started the valedictory session and then used a wireless radio to communicate live with nearby stations. Using the platform to reach out to students and the public, he emphasized the importance of collective action against drug abuse and urged citizens to take ownership of “Operation Toofan”.

He also urged the students to use technology and modern communication tools for the welfare of the society and the young generation. The Minister’s live radio interaction proved to be exciting and inspiring for the young participants.

Organized under the theme JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree on the Air – Jamboree on the Internet), the Jamboree offered Scouts the opportunity to connect with other members across geographical boundaries through amateur radio, wireless communications and Internet platforms.

Participants used radio amateurs to speak directly to people in various Indian states and overseas, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Internet communication also allowed them to communicate with scouts and local stations in countries such as Indonesia.

This initiative provided students with hands-on exposure to communication technologies while promoting international friendship, cooperation and a sense of global citizenship.
