Juneteenth (an abbreviation for nineteenth June) is an American federal holiday that resembles the end of slavery in the United States. It refers to the day – June 19, 1865 – when the enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the emancipation was signed.

1 January 1863 – President Abraham Lincoln issues an emancipation and declares all enslaved people in the States of Confederation for freedom.
June 19, 1865 – Gordon Granger General Union arrives in Galveston in Texas and publishes general order No. 3, officially promoting the end of slavery in the last possession of the confederation.
June 19, 1866 – The first Juneenth celebrations are organized by liberated African Americans in Texas with prayer meetings, music, food and community gatherings.
2021 – Juneenth becomes 11. The American federal holiday signed in the law of President Joe Biden June 17, 2021.

Are banks open in Juneenth?
No, most banks will be closed.
Juneth is a feast of a federal reserve system, which means that the central bank that regulates the US financial system is closed.
While private banks are not obliged to close, many of them watch the holiday.
Transactions made through online or mobile banking will not be processed until Friday 20 June.
Atmms and online services remain available even if payments and transfers will not be published until the next business day.

Yes, most of the main businesses remain open in Juneenth.
Juneteenth is not an ordered holiday for private employers to close business. While most large retailers and supermarkets will be open, some small businesses may decide to close. Many companies offer holiday employees.
