
The government has declared public holidays on December 9 and 11 for all public offices and educational institutions and paid holidays for commercial enterprises in the state in connection with the upcoming local government general elections.
December 9 will be a holiday for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts where as December 11 will be observed as a holiday in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kanodnur and Kasarag districts.
Government employees who are electors of a particular LSG Constituency where the election is being held, but who are serving/employed in an office/institution located in districts where polling leave is not applicable, may be granted other duties or any special leave available under SPARK (except Casual Leave, Commuting Leave or Earned Leave) as per their convenience as per General Office Dates issued on Election Day department.
Every person employed in any commercial establishment, commercial establishment, industrial establishment or any other establishment in the private sector who is entitled to vote in the Panchayat/Municipal elections shall be granted leave on the day of general elections.
It is also provided that no deductions or reduction of wages shall be made to any such person on account of leave so granted.
The Labor Commissioner will make necessary arrangements with all private enterprises including the IT sector, private industrial centers and other private institutions under the Shops and Business Establishments Act to declare election day as a paid holiday for all their employees.
Employees including daily wage earners/casual workers who are voters of the constituency where the election is held but are serving/employed in an industrial establishment or establishment located outside that constituency where he/she resides must be entitled to leave with pay on election day.
