Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Severage Board (HMWS & SB) for this season will not double fees on water tankers for homeowners who do not have rainwater for harvesting, said K. Ashok Reddy CEO in interaction.
The decision was taken with regard to the prevailing high demand for water tankers in the season in combination with the drying of groundwater sources in several places in the city.
“We do not want to burden consumers during this important time. Water is a vital source and everyone has to understand its value. Store of double fees for not harvesting rainwater can meet as hard, which is not a message we want to send,” said Mr. Ashok Reddy.
In December 2024, the Council proposed to double the fees to homeowners in the area of 300 square meters and above, who are without RWH pit, who are also some of the repeated consumers. The aim was to encourage the construction of RWHS to deal with water lack and promote the recharge of groundwater.
After the hard summer of last year, when the sudden drying of growl in the western parts of Hyderabad and logistics challenges in the supply of water tankers presented the situation of the “water crisis”, the board of directors ordered a field study. This survey including officials and NGOs in water protection, carried out from April to November, checked more than 40,200 houses in 22 divisions that fall within the “conspiracy area of 300 square meters and higher”.
The survey revealed that about 57% of houses had RWH and more than 17,300 houses lacked. The Board of Directors operated the announcement and, by the end of 2024, applied for compliance with regulations that would be doubled for water tankers.
According to data on water tankers supplied in March Division such as Durgamcheruvu, Sr Nagar, Asifnagar, Sahebnagar, Kukatpally, Qutbullapur and Hafeezpet, which have maximum connections without RWH, they also bought the most water tankers.
Mr. Ashok’s observation at the World Water Day celebration last month gives the water tanker’s demand in the city and the RWHS screenplay: “Of the 13 lacquer connections, only 42,000 rely on water tankers – and 22,000 of them think it is with a high 31,000 tankers.”
The Council charges 500 GBP per tanker 5000 liters for home purposes and the same amount for 850 GBP for commercial and other categories.
