HMT brings a new collection of ‘Kannadiga’ watches for Karnataka

New HMT Kannadiga watch to be launched on Sunday.

On the occasion of the 71st Kannada Rajyotsava, Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) will introduce a new watch collection called ‘HMT Kannadiga’ which is music to the ears of watch lovers.

This watch has Kannada numerals, Gandabherunda emblem, yellow-red Kannada flag and series name “HMT Kannadiga” in Kannada.

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced on Saturday that the watch will be available in two variants – strap and chain – and four different styles. They are estimated to be priced at ₹3,500 and ₹3,600 respectively. With this price range, the new collection will be placed in the HMT premium watch segment.

According to officials, the watch will be equipped with advanced technology and radio radiation. The strap variants will feature genuine Italian leather straps, priced at ₹450 each, he added. The unveiling will be held at the HMT Grounds in North Bengaluru on Sunday evening.

Soon after the announcement, social media platforms were flooded with posts about the new collection, reflecting widespread public interest. Several social media groups have also seen discussions about the new collection, its price range and timing of its release.

It may be recalled that a queue stretching almost a kilometer was formed when the Gandaberunda collection, another popular Kannada watch, was restocked on Independence Day earlier this year. Within hours the collection was sold out. It will be back in stock soon, sources said.

Suman T., an HMT watch enthusiast, said that the company is coming out with a new collection after a long time and it will undoubtedly sell out soon. “PSU should consider mass production, especially of models like the Gandabherunda and Roman, which are widely discussed in several watch enthusiast groups,” he said.

Addressing the media in New Delhi, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the initiative was a special contribution for Karnataka on the occasion of the 71st Rajyotsava. “HMT, popularly known as the ‘Timekeeper of India’ and a source of pride for Karnataka, has always made a special contribution to the state’s language, culture and heritage despite being a Central Government undertaking,” he said.
