The World Championship cycle in 2025–27 started in Galle on the commanding note for Bangladesh, which on the day of the start of the first test against Sri Lanka built a solid display of the launch. After the early goal was lost, Captain hired Hossain Shanto and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim turned the tide with brilliant uninterrupted partnership and ended the day firmly.
Bangladesh, deployed on a bat on the dry surface of Galle, was soon Houpan Sri Lanka’s spinners and in the first hour slipped to 45 to 3. But this early momentum disappeared when Bangladesh’s mean order brought their experience to the game.
SL vs Ban, 1 test day 1: The most important
From the pressure position, Shanto and Mushfiqur joined a remarkable stand together and added 247 runs for the fourth goal from the stump. Bangladesh’s captain was aggressive against rotation, often using his legs to disrupt the lengths and pierced the infield. Mushfiqur, stable and folded, anchored its end with a minimum risk and quiet efficiency.
The duo is a century – Shanto undefeated on 136 and Mushfiqur at 105 – were the product of the calculated launch and intelligent rotation. Their partnership helped Bangladesh Post 292 at 3 at the end of the game, and after a great start, the driving power of the day completely overturned.
Sri Lanka, despite early breakthroughs and emotional opportunity to say goodbye to Angela Mathews, could not maintain lasting pressure with the ball. Their attack on the spinning was less effective, as the day was worn, and Bangladéš earned every free charm.
1st day clearly belonged to visitors – and laid the foundation for the big first shifts in what the beginning of a long test path in the new WTC cycle means.
Sri Lanka decided to use only five pitchers interestingly and it was a difficult day for Jayasuriya and Tharind, who bowed 61 crossed between them, but had only two goals to show up for their vigil.
