
Padma Vibhushan Pandit Chhanulal Mishhra died on October 2 at 4 am in Mirzapore after he was well well for several months. Hindustani the classic singer turned 89 this August.
His last ceremonies will be held today in Varanasi, his daughter Namrata Mishhr confirmed on the phone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi published on the social media that he was “deeply saddened” by the extinction of the renowned classic singer Pandit Channallul Misra. It is called “happiness” that he has always received affection and blessing Pandit Mishhr.

Who was Pandit Chhanulal Mishhr?
Pandit Chhanulal Mishhra was one of the best Indian classic singers. He was known for his command over Banaras and Kirana Gharanas. He was known as “folk artist”.
He was born on August 3, 1936 in Hariharpur in Azamgarh and first trained under his father Pandit Badri Prasha Mishra. Later Studdid with Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of Kiran Gharan and musicologist Thakur Jaidev Singh.
Pandit Mishhra moved to Varanasi four decades ago. He managed Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti and Kajri, mixed Pandjab, Purab and Gaya Traditions in a soulful style. He was especially loved for devoted music, including Ramcharitmanas recitation and Kabir songs.
The audience admired his ability to sing Sunderkaand from the heart. Through her work, Mishhra maintained classical music rooted in tradition and addressed ordinary listeners.
