How are students interconnected? Do they look at their friends? What happens if they have a problem of mental health?
On the Hindu tag on the campus: India in a dialogue that took place in Vit Chennai on Monday (May 5, 2025), students emphasized the importance of staying with their friends in real time. “We should comment to ask our friends if they are doing well,” said Sruthi Jain, a student of the last year’s rights, and prepared a stage for discussing a number of questions-of them revolving around social media, taking a lot of time and attention to young people.
She called for an open discussion on mental health by breaking taboos around the object in favor of all.
Shreya S. Shirol, a first -year student, suggested that when a friend or classmate expresses need or misfortune, they should not be displaced. Efforts must be made to understand and talk to them. It would help identify and find out what a friend passed through, she said.
The conversation was moderated by Zubeda Hamid, head of the editor, Hindu.
The content shared through social media has an important role, said Carolyn Nirmala P., a student of the last year of rights. People often rely on social media for themselves to themselves, instead of looking for professional help. She pointed out that the separation of the pandemic (Covid-19) left many people fighting with mental health problems. She felt that it was also responsible for social media.
SUSEEMA Devi Kr, a student of the last year of rights, said that students were struggling with many problems. She gave an analogy to Biriyani, a mixture of spices and ingredients that required the need to develop healthy interpersonal relationships.
Panellists were strong that the mental balance of a person depends on the reports they withdraw from social media contributions and notes that it requires a certain level of mental maturity. Just as people focus on physical health, they should also ensure their well -being, they emphasized.
The topics discussed were also concerns such as working stress, gender and disabilities causing mental health, lack of finding the right therapy at the right time and high cost of psychotherapy or psychiatric assistance.
