Hindu Impact Panel: High Court seeks reports on rescue of pregnant minor

The Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) of the Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the NTR Commissionerate Police and the Krishna District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to submit reports on the rescue of a pregnant minor girl in NTR district.

The JJC took suo motu cognizance of a report published in The Hindu on July 20 titled “Rescue of a 14-year-old pregnant girl” on the incident at Tatakuntla village in Vissannapet mandal and directed the CWC chairman and police authorities to submit separate reports by July 27.

The committee also directed the officials to appear before it at a meeting scheduled at the High Court on July 29 with all relevant records to hear the case.

Constables suspended

In a separate case, Head Constable Sitaramulu and Constable Prasad, attached to Nandigama police station in NTR Commissionerate, were suspended after an accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) case absconded from custody.

According to police, two workers took Lingaraju, a native of Tavalakuntla village in Markapuram mandal, into custody on July 19 for allegedly harassing a minor girl on social media.

Nandigama Deputy Commissioner of Police Chalasani Srinivas told The Hindu on Friday that the accused fled while being escorted from Nandigama.

The police later re-arrested Lingaraju and produced him before a court, which sent him to judicial custody, Mr. Srinivas said.
