Artificial intelligence is the flavor of the times. No longer the preserve of tech geeks, it affects all of our lives in ways known and unknown. Many of us already use AI models in our jobs and in our homes. Companies like Google Gemini, Chat GPT and Perplexity have changed the way we surf information on the internet.
But AI and its impact on us is much more than this. Will AI eat up jobs, especially in the tech domain where India employs nearly six million professionals? Will AI create new jobs? Where is India in the race to lead the world’s AI transformation? Do we have the technology backbone and infrastructure to support AI development in India? What is the government doing to ensure that India is not left behind in the AI race?
This is just a sample of the questions that will be answered in a panel discussion at The Hindu Huddle in Bangalore on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Secretary, Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan; Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India V. Anantha Nageswaran; and former CEO, Cognizant and Chancellor, Krea University Lakshmi Narayanan will come together to discuss some of the emerging issues in AI and its likely impact on jobs in India. The discussion will be moderated by Raghuvir Srinivasan, editor of The Hindu Business Line.
Mr. Krishnan has been spearheading the government’s emerging AI policy for more than two years. Mr. Krishnan has been proactive in his role as Union IT Secretary, whether helping to set up semiconductor manufacturing and packaging capacity, creating space for hyperscalers or enabling the development of domestic large language models.
Mr. Anantha Nageswaran has done deep research on AI and its impact on jobs in India. The Economic Survey 2026, prepared by him and his team, takes an extensive look at the topic of skills and job creation in the era of artificial intelligence.
Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan is a keen observer of the emerging AI scenario and brings considerable experience in the IT industry. He is also an active early-stage investor and is therefore up-to-date on the latest developments in the industry.
At the end of this session, there should be valuable insights on India’s AI journey and how the country should prepare for the emerging employment threat.
