The Government of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led by Mahashtra made Hinda compulsory as a third language from class 1-5 in Marathi and English secondary schools in the state according to national educational policy (NEP) 2020, PTI reported.
The opposition Congress, which killed the movement of the state government, described it as the imposition of Hindi. According to the details, only Marathi and English learn in these schools as compulsory languages from classes 1 to 4.
The government resolution (GR) issued on Thursday said that Hindi as the third language will be compulsory from class 1 to 5 from the next academic year and the new curriculum according to NEP will be introduced for class 1 in 2025-26.
The GR issued by the State Government, among other things, said that policy would be introduced in 2026-27 for class 2, 3, 4, and 6. Although for classes 5, 9 and 11, politics would be introduced from 2027-28 and for classes 8, 10 and 12 it would be true from 2028-29.
What did the GR say?
They are currently watching all schools in the state, except for schools with marathi and the English medium, a model of three languages. For such schools, the language of the media, English and marathi learns, said gr.
In addition, GR said that language policy for classes VI to X will be according to the state curriculum.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the state has already carried out NEP. “Marathi was already compulsory. Hindi should also learn because it is a means of communication throughout the country,” PTI CM quoted.
Against Marathi ‘Asmita’:
The leader of the Vijay Wadettiwar, who killed the State Government, described it as Marathi “Asmita” (Pride).
“We would have no problem if Hindi was an optional language. But the fact that it is mandatory is like storing it. It is wrong to hurt marathim sentiment. We can demand marathi as the third language in Madhya Pradesh,” he asked.
States were created by linguistic reorganization. The priority should be provided to the local language and Hindi should be made optional, he said.
