Continuous heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours has caused fresh damage in several parts of Himachal Pradesh without hints of immediate relief. While no major victims have been reported overnight, the losses of infrastructure remain significant, especially for the road network, the Minister of Education Rohit Thakur said on Thursday.
“Damage occurs in several places due to ongoing rain. Even last night there were significant losses, although mostly related to infrastructure,” Thakur told journalists. He confirmed that Cloudburst’s incidents were reported from the election district of the ramp ramp assembly.
The Minister said that the public work department was ordered to restore roads with priority, especially because the Apple harvest season is on its peak. “Our efforts will ensure that the situation is brought back to normal and that the Apple season is not affected,” he said.
According to Thakura, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts in the state of severe rainfall by August 17th. Monsoon withdrawal from Himachal Pradesh usually occurs within September 24th, so the state leaves another month of potential weather.
“As we have done the necessary preparations. The government does everything in its capacity and will continue to do it,” he added.
At the closure of the education institutions, he explained that the decision was based on the local administration. “Schools are closed in affected areas according to local SDM and district authorities, depending on the severity of the damage in every location,” he said.
Thakur emphasized the recurring toll of natural disasters and said there was a warning and one must be careful.
“Over the past two to three years, natural calamities have caused extensive damage. We must maintain strict caution, especially near rivers and streams. If travel can be avoided, it should be. Travel only if necessary, doing full risk of risk,” he said.
He also warned against damage to the vehicle of falling trees and debris and emphasized the importance of the following official advice. “Extensive measures and vigilance are required. Follow the following advice that are issued from time to time,” he said.
The local taxi driver Raj Kumar described the difficulties that the inhabitants face. “Since yesterday’s night it rains hard, causing big problems. Small streams overflow, debris falls in several places and roads become dangerous. Offices and schoolchildren are fighting. There is fear in the air,” Thakur said.
Raj Kumar added that motorists must be very careful. “We must park the vehicles very carefully because the trees may fall anywhere. The weather department said that in the next 16 hours the rain may be heavier. Small drains overflow, debris falls and roads are closing.
The state government urged the population to avoid high -risk travel, especially in the zones susceptible to landslides and along the banks of the river until the weather improves.
