The Himachal Pradesh government is ready to get more annual revenues of approximately 150 GBP Crore due to the Supreme Court’s decision in its favor, increasing the level of license fees from 12% to 18% for 1045 Megawatts Karcham-Wangtoo Hydroeledektric project.
The statement of the State Government on Wednesday (July 16, 2025) stated that JSW would have to pay the state 18% instead of 12% of the hydroelectric project Karcham-Wangtoo in the Kinnaur district, which would not only increase the income of the state but also give people the real benefit of their resources.
The statement added that, according to an agreement between the state government and the company in 1999, the royal rank was determined as 12% for the first 12 years of the project and then 18% after the remaining 28 years. After the project began to operate in September 2011, the company paid 12% of the license fees for 12 years, but since September 2023 refused to pay another 6% of the license fees.
The dispute was reached by Himachal Pradesh and the decision was issued in favor of the company. The state government then questioned the order at the Supreme Court and issued a favorable decision.
The government hopes that this decision would also prepare a trip for other projects that have completed twelve years, which could generate income over 250 Crore per year.
