
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu at the newly constructed building at University College, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu said the state was making remarkable strides in the higher education sector through infrastructure development and comprehensive curriculum reforms.
She was speaking after inaugurating the renovated AR (oriental block) center at University College, Thiruvananthapuram and several newly completed buildings in colleges across the state here on Wednesday.
According to the minister, the government has invested ₹6,000 crore in infrastructure development in the higher education sector in the last four years. The implementation of four-year bachelor’s programs brought transformational changes both in the content and in the approach to education. In addition, the revised curriculum has been designed to enhance employability skills and foster students’ research abilities.
She emphasized the concept of “working while studying” and said campuses must enable students to become entrepreneurs and job creators. In addition, through the “Scholar Connect” program, students are given the opportunity to interact with diaspora professionals working abroad.
Dr. Bindu said development work worth ₹22 crore has been completed at the University College, approved by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The original Oriental block was renovated without compromising its architectural legacy, along with the construction of a new language block and laboratory block.
Infrastructure development work carried out at Government Victoria College, Palakkad; Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Memorial Government College, Thalassery; Government College of Arts and Sciences, Chelakkara; Government College of Arts and Sciences, Patirippala; Government College of Arts and Sciences, Kulathoor; MMS Government Arts and Science College Malayinkeezhu; Government College of Arts and Sciences, Karunagappally; and Government Arts and Science College, Mankada were also inaugurated.
Principal of University College Santhosh Kumar KR presided over the function.
