High alert raised in Delhi after call to blow up Red Fort, later turned out to be a hoax | Today’s news
A high security alert was sounded in Delhi on Saturday after officials received a threat call that the Red Fort would be blown up, which was later found to be a hoax.
ANI, quoting officials, said that the threat call was initially received at the Mumbai Police control room. Knowing the seriousness of the threat to the historical monument, this information was immediately forwarded to the Delhi Police control room.
After receiving the report, the Northern District Police in the state capital swung into action and started a comprehensive security check and verification process. Senior officials said, “A call was received at the Bombay Police control room threatening to blow up the Red Fort in Delhi. The information was shared by the Bombay Police Control Center with the Delhi Control Centre. The information was then received by the North Delhi Police and after investigation, it was found to be a hoax call.”
Hoax threat calling on the rise?
In a separate incident, another large bomb threat targeting a high-security installation was reported, which later turned out to be a hoax. On July 3, the Bengaluru police took into custody a man from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh who was detained by the Delhi police for allegedly sending a hoax bomb threat email to the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
ISRO headquarters received a threatening email on July 2, warning of an imminent explosion. However, no suspicious items were discovered after the police carried out a thorough inspection along with bomb disposal squads.
After conducting technical analysis and digital tracking, a special investigation team traced the sender to Ghaziabad. Further questioning and medical examination revealed that the accused suffers from a mental illness. The police also seized the electronic device used to send the threatening e-mail and the case remains under investigation under relevant provisions.
In early June, a passenger allegedly spread a fake bomb signal on a train at Lucknow’s Aishbagh station after he was denied a seat, triggering panic among commuters and a security check by several agencies, police said. The accused has been identified as Saini Jackie (26), a resident of Telangana, who did so after he could not find a seat in the train, news agency PTI reported.
This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
