Strict traffic restrictions remained in place in several parts of Delhi on Sunday (Oct 11, 2026) for the second consecutive day as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) renewed its call for protests demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
As advised by the Delhi Traffic Police, detours were in place from 6 am, with traffic movement expected to be affected around Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Patel Chowk and several other key intersections in Lutyens’ Delhi.
The restrictions come amid a security crackdown following announcements by the CJP and prominent student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), that protests will continue until their demands are met.
The affected sections include Ashoka Road-Jantar Mantar Road roundabout, Tolstoy Marg-Janpath junction, Jai Singh Road-Sansad Marg junction, Rail Bhawan roundabout, Patel Chowk, Gol Dak Khana and several junctions around Connaught Place.
Traffic is also likely to be affected at Mandi House, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg junction, Lodhi Road flyover, Neela Gumbad roundabout, Samrat Hotel roundabout, Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg crossing and underpasses under Bhikaji Cama Place and Moti Bagh flyovers.
Addressing a press conference at HKS Surjeet Bhawan on Saturday (October 10, 2026), CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde said marches to Jantar Mantar will be held daily until Mr. Kumar is removed as Chief Election Commissioner.
Mr. Shinde also alleged that protesters, including Abhijeet Dipke, were subjected to inhumane treatment by the Delhi Police during their detention.
Police said on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that CJP leaders Mr. Dipke, Mr. Ranka and Mr. Das have been remanded in custody and will be produced before the Executive Magistrate of Delhi Cantt. Police Station on Sunday (October 11, 2026).
SFI General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya said that the students would hold peaceful demonstrations and that the places where they were stopped by police barricades would become their protest sites.
The traffic police advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel and allow extra time for journeys to railway stations, interstate bus terminals and airports, especially when traveling through New Delhi and central Delhi.
It said restrictions would be regulated or relaxed based on real-time assessment of the situation and urged commuters to follow updates on its official website and social media platforms.
