Sixteen mandals in Prakasam district and seven mandals in SPSR Nellore district received excessive rainfall on Tuesday. According to government data, Prakasam recorded an average rainfall of 53 mm while Nellore recorded 31.2 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Met Center in Amaravati reported that a well-marked low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the north coast of Sri Lanka moved northwest and was located off the coast of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning. As this system continues to move northwest, it is likely to intensify over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the south coast of Andhra Pradesh during the next 12 hours. The system is expected to move over the south coast of Andhra Pradesh during this period.
Extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted for SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Tirupati, Annamayya, Chittoor and Kadapa districts. Meanwhile, Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapur, Nandyal, Kurnool and Bapatla districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
In view of the inclement weather, the district collectors have declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in south coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The ruling MLAs also expressed their support to the public.
In Nellore Rural, MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy told Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and activists to remain on high alert and provide immediate assistance to residents if needed. He urged people to contact him directly on 85579 99999 in case of emergency.
Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy has advised her constituents to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from potential floods, especially due to the threat from Somasila following widespread rains. She discussed with the collector the protective measures that have been taken, highlighted the vulnerability of the Penna River embankment in several areas and called for increased vigilance among residents along the river.
District Collector Prakasam P. Rajababu conducted extensive tours of coastal fishing villages in Singarayakonda, Tanguturu and Kothapatnam mandals. He reviewed the preparedness of government agencies and urged fishermen and villagers to remain vigilant.
Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla has directed officials to set up a 24×7 dispatch center to be staffed in shifts to coordinate relief measures. Officials have been instructed to be ready to provide immediate assistance after receiving a call from the public.
