Heavy rains lash parts of Cyberabad; waterlogging and traffic snarls reported from several areas
Several parts of Hyderabad witnessed heavy rains on Saturday (June 13) evening, leading to waterlogging at several places and slow traffic at major junctions in the city.
The day started under cloudy skies in many areas after overnight showers. Light rain and drizzle was reported from Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and adjoining localities around 4:00 PM, it intensified later in the evening in parts of the city.
Waterlogging was reported near Hotel Sawera in Shamshabad, affecting vehicular movement. Videos shared on social media also showed flooding along the Tellapur-Osmansagar road, with rainwater accumulating on stretches of the road.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data, Rajendranagar recorded 55 mm of rainfall as of 6 pm. It was followed by 26.3 mm at BHEL Factory, 19.8 mm at Lingampally, 13.3 mm at Gachibowli, 11.8 mm at Chanda Nagar, 10.8 mm at University of Hyderabad and 10 mm at Patancher.
As rain continued in several parts of Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) issued an advisory asking citizens to exercise caution while traveling. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement in low-lying and water-prone areas, drive carefully on slippery roads and follow traffic instructions issued by authorities.
Officials said monsoon teams, technical staff and field staff of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation have been deployed and are closely monitoring the vulnerable water-logging areas and taking precautionary measures whenever necessary. Coordination with the police and traffic authorities was also maintained to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth movement during the rainy season.
