The family from Tamil Nadu – a couple and their two smaller daughters – on the car in which they traveled, was flooded with floods in the Chhattisgarh Bastar district, the police said on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
According to the police, when the accident occurred, the victims of Rajesh Kumar G (43), his wife Pavitra (40) and their two daughters Saujaina (7) and Saumaiyya (4), along with the Lala Yada driver, try to drive through a flooded hood. Mr. Yadu, however, survived by holding the tree for several hours.
The car was powered by Rajesh Kumar, a building supplier who comes from Tamil Nadu and has lived in Raipur for the past few years. They were heading to Tamil over Bastar and Sukma District when they decided to turn over the heavy downpour and returned to the Kangger Valley National Park, where the current was strong, leading to an accident.
Bastar Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha said Hindu that while the call was accepted on Tuesday (August 26), the state strength of the reaction to disasters could start rescue work much later due to strong streams.
Late afternoon, Mr. Yadu was saved while the bodies of the remaining four were found in the car. Mr. Yadu told the police that Rajesh Kumar was driving while he was sitting in the front passenger seat and managed to get out because these doors were not stuck, unlike the remaining three.

Dr. Gayatri Vani, scientist and take over from state weather forecasts, IMD, Raipur, said Hindu that in the last 24 hours Sukma has seen extremely strong precipitation, while in Bastar, Dantewad and Narayanpur were in a very difficult category.
She added that from Thursday (August 28, 2025) the ministry expected a certain decline and would be significant from Friday (29 August).
