
The unsuccessful rain and squalls of winds that have been defending the central Travancore since Friday have left a trail of destruction throughout the region, while the Kottayam district bearing the onslaught.
According to official estimates, in 54 villages across Kottayam, rain -related damage was reported. Up to 172 houses suffered partial damage. Two embossed camps were opened, one in Kottayam and Changanassery Taluks, and together hold 19 people out of four families.
Strong winds uprooted trees and broken glass panels, causing damage to several houses. In many places, the fallen trees also reduced electric lines and poles of electricity, disrupted the offer and increased the risk of other risks. The State Electric Council of Kerala (KSEB) suffered an estimated loss of 2.43 ₹ Lakh in the district
The worst area was Kottayam electric circle, where 369 low voltage poles and 62 high voltage poles were damaged. Numerous electrical lines were also destroyed, while the total loss in this area was estimated at 1.67 GBP Crore.
The electric circle of Pala also suffered significant damage and caused a loss of 75.55 ₹ Lakh. 260 low voltage poles and 60 high voltage poles were reported in this area.
Growing water level
Increasing water levels in rivers increased the risk of flooding in low -laid areas in the western parts of the district. Meanwhile, the eastern high ranges face a growing threat of landslides. The authorities urged the population in high -risk zones, especially in the Koottical and Wagamon regions to remain vigilant.
In pathanamthitta water levels in large dams continued to rise sharply throughout the day. At the Kakki-Aather dam, the level of 973.16 m compared to the full surface of the tank (FRL) 981.46 m.
The water levels in the Pampa and Achencoil rivers are also constantly growing and are now approaching the warning threshold.
Meanwhile, three embossed camps are currently functional in Thirvvalla Taluk. A total of 53 people out of 14 families participated in these camps, of which 22 women and 11 children.
