Health fear intervened in Australia-Tabor-Royalty of their ongoing one-day series against India-A in Kanpur, because four players, including the captain, were diagnosed with stomach infections. While India-A comprehensively won the first unofficial ODI, Australia-in the second ODI equalized the three-match series 1-1 with an easy victory of nine goals.
The fast pitch of Henry Thornton was most affected and was admitted to the Regency hospital after his condition deteriorated. The other three players were treated and released after routine medical tests. The team sources proposed that the disease could be associated with food consumed at the hotel, although neither the hospital authorities nor the team administration officially confirmed it.
According to the local team manager, four players were initially sent to the hospital. While the three were cleaned to return after their messages returned normal, Thornton showed symptoms of serious infection and had to be maintained under observation. Later he was released as soon as his condition improved and had returned to the hotel.
In response to the Australian team leadership, the diet plan of players revised as a preventive measure. Although the adjustment disrupted the training routines, officials stressed that players’ health remains the highest priority. In the opening ODI series, all four cricket disabilities appeared.
The team’s sources added that the Australian medical unit carefully monitors the situation and recommended players to temporarily avoid local food and water. Doctors at Regence Hospital have confirmed that Thornton’s condition is now stable, although his return to the action will depend on further medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, the food department gathered samples from the hotel kitchen for testing, but did not report any contamination or discrepancies in the meal. The management of the hotel denied any connection between his food and illness, and instead attributed changes in weather conditions.
The vice president of Bcci Rajeev Shukla said: “The hotel concerned is one of the best in Kanpur. If food was the cause, then all players would be influenced. It’s something to be carefully inspected.”
The health obstacle for a moment disrupted the preparations of Australia-A, but officials remain convinced that all players will fully recover before the next accessories.
