
Will Russian President Vladimir Putin meet his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelsky, for peaceful conversations in Turkey? Although the answers remain uncertain, the latest news on Wednesday suggests that Putin’s participation has not yet been confirmed – although Putin suggested himself.

The development came after Putin called for direct conversations with Ukraine in Turkey in Istanbul and said he should start immediately, on May 15. It did not determine whether the interviews would include Zelski and themselves on Thursday.
Later in Zelenka, Putin urged him to meet him personally on Thursday in Turkey. He said he was still hoping a ceasefire with Russia since Monday and that “will wait for Putin” in Turkey “personally”.

Ukrainian presidential advisors to Mykhailo Podolyak announced the same and said that interviews with lower -level representatives would be unnecessary. “… only Putin can decide to continue the war or stop the war,” Podolyak quoted the independent Kiev.
So what to expect on Thursday in Turkey?
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday, May 13, confirmed that the Russian delegation would be in Istanbul at the end of this week for direct peaceful conversations with Ukraine.
“Our delegation will be there and will be waiting for the Ukrainian side,” Peskov told the Russian state correspondent, according to independent Kiev.

Will the US join?
The US will also be represented on peaceful interviews in Istanbul, Kyiv Informed Independent. US President Donald Trump confirmed May 13 that Foreign Minister Marco Rubio would attend. Ukraine and its European allies urged on the unconditional ceasefire starting on 12 May as the first step towards peace.
Russia, however, effectively rejected the unconditional 30 -day ceasefire. Instead, Putin offered direct peaceful conversations.
According to The Associated Press, Zelena said “he will do everything to agree on a ceasefire, because it is with (Putin) that I have to negotiate a ceasefire because he can decide on him.”

But guessing whether a ceasefire should come before the start of the interviews.
“Ukraine is ready for any format of negotiations with Russia, but the ceasefire must be in the first place,” said Andria Yermak, head of the presidential office of Ukraine, Tuesday.
The first direct conversations from the war
If Putin-Zelensky meets, it would be the first personal meeting between two leaders since 2019.
Since Russia launched in February 2022, there has been no direct meeting.
