Addressing a rally in Haryana’s Jind to mark the eighth foundation day of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) on Sunday (December 7, 2025), former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said he had no option but to forge an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 to prevent his party from defecting. He added that those who saw his party as a threat tried to label the move as a “conspiracy”.
Mr. Chautala said he would rather speak from the heart than make a speech on the foundation day and demanded from the audience whether they really had any option but to support the BJP. “The BJP has been in power at the Center for the last 11 years. You know how they run the government. Do you think we had a choice?” asked Mr. Chautala, adding that seven of its 10 MLAs, who left the party before the assembly elections last year, would have defected earlier had he not supported the BJP government.

“We would lose our symbol and the party would be over,” joked Mr Chauala.
The JJP, which backed the BJP to form the government in 2019, pulled out in the 2024 assembly polls, facing the wrath of its core voters, for its “anti-farmer” stance during the year-long agitation against the Centre’s now withdrawn farm laws and for supporting the BJP government.
Mr. Chautala said he had provided the BJP to fulfill the promises made to the people and kept the door open for them in Chandigarh during his four-and-a-half-year tenure in power. On the issue of farmers’ agitation, he added that even if he quit the state government, it could still function with the support of seven independent MLAs.
Mr. Chautala said his party was open to support the Congress as well, but they did not have the numbers. “Ups and downs are part of politics. Chaudhary Devi Lal was in power for only more than six years in his six-decade-long political career. The politics of drawing has burdened our ground politics,” he said, alleging that the BJP returned to power through “match-fixing”.
JJP National President Ajay Singh Chautala came down heavily on both the BJP and the Congress, saying that the Congress was responsible for enabling the formation of the BJP government in Haryana. Addressing the crowd, he said that the Congress leaders themselves had colluded with the BJP, sunk their own party, and the BJP was now busy exploiting the state.
Dr. Chautala said that Haryana today is witnessing a “jungle paradise” where theft, robbery, looting and murder have become routine. Questioning the government’s claim, he said, “If this is the law and order situation, who will guarantee the security of Haryana’s people?”
Accusing the BJP government of being anti-farmer, he said the farmers have not even recovered the cost of cultivation. He pointed out that thousands of acres remained waterlogged for months after the flood without relief and the government in many regions could not even drain the water. He further said that despite spending crores on the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Haryana, “the Prime Minister has not announced even a single rupee for the development of the state”.
