The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the AP High Court Advocates Association to respond to advocate Thot Sunith’s plea seeking 33% reservation for women advocates in the association’s upcoming elections.
Ms. Sunitha, a member of the association, filed the petition citing the 106th constitutional amendment, which mandates one-third reservation for women from local bodies to Parliament.
She noted that the Supreme Court had in May last year directed the Supreme Court Bar Association and all Bar Associations to introduce one-third reservation for women and urged that the AP High Court Bar Association should also be given similar directions.
After allowing the petition, Justice G. Rama Krishna Prasad issued notice to the respondents and posted the matter for further hearing on December 10.
