An expression of concern about serious risks for public health in the form of a canal, which had toxic waste and remains near Anganwadi in Ponnurunno in the city, ordered the High Court in Kerala an immediate cleaning of the canal and stated that children were exposed to dangerous waste.
In addition, steps should be taken to ensure that such toxic waste in the channel does not accumulate. “The intentional interpretation of waste, including electronic waste, is a tragedy that the city now faces. Therefore, the district collector should convene a high -level committee within two days to deal with the concerns that the court has raised,” he said.
The court also raised concerns about the disproportionate delay in the reconstruction of the Mullassery channel, because the seniors and others said that their homes were still flooded due to ongoing reconstruction work. The Committee should also deal with this question.
Meanwhile, Amicus Curiae, which was appointed by a court, has identified several hotspots in the city that is still susceptible to inunda. These include Aysha Road, Ponnurunni and Kammattadam. The court stated that to maintain clean channels and waterways of the city, a permanent and long -term solution is needed to ensure that no storage and debtization of the remains has been carried out.
