MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday welcomed the Madurai Bench directive of the Madras High Court to remove Prosopis juliflora (karuvelam trees) as a landmark order and said he would launch a movement across Tamil Nadu after the assembly elections to ensure removal of the trees.
The MDMK leader told the media in Madurai that the court, realizing the seriousness of the situation with regard to the presence of karuvelam trees and how they were affecting the water table and causing other problems, had issued a comprehensive order.
