The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has commuted the death sentence awarded by a Tirunelveli district court to a man convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting his minor daughter. Instead, he was given life until his natural death.
The court was hearing a transfer case and an appeal filed by the man against the judgment of the Special Court for POCSO Act cases. The prosecution case was that the appellant had been exploiting the girl over a period of time; as a result, she became pregnant and had to have an abortion.
